This type of pollution does not only visually affect landscapes; it also affects mainly the<strong> animal species<\/strong> that inhabit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galapagosgalaxycruises.com\/about-galapagos-islands\/\">archipelago<\/a>. Many research studies allow the identification of many kinds of<strong> micro-plastics<\/strong> within animals. Turtles and some species of birds confuse plastic with food, which results in the inheritance of <strong>plastic waste<\/strong>. As a result of this practice, most animals die.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Resolution<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On May 21, 2015, the Government Council of Galapagos signed the resolution to <strong>prevent<\/strong> the entry of <strong>bottles<\/strong> or non-returnable <strong>containers<\/strong> to the islands. This resolution includes sodas, juices, bottled water, and sports drinks. The only exception is tonic water and sparkling water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The resolution was approved for the first time in 2015 but did not get applied. On April 22, 2018, in commemoration of <strong>&#8220;Earth Day&#8221;<\/strong>, the resolution entered into force. The initiative has 4 stages, starting with <strong>plastic straws<\/strong>. Later it continues with <strong>plastic bags<\/strong>, flexible foams, and <strong>polyethylene<\/strong> containers. The final stage focused on <strong>non-returnable<\/strong> beverages.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Humans as key actors.<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Because plastic pollution is the result of human activity, the <strong>call to action<\/strong> is for all of humanity. The local inhabitants of the Galapagos Islands, the people of Ecuador and foreigners from all over the world who <strong>visit<\/strong> the islands must follow the instructions of behavior and care of the <strong>environment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.galapagosgalaxycruises.com\/about-galaxy-cruises\/\">GALAGENTS S.A.<\/a> accepts this initiative and for that reason does not offer drinks in non-returnable containers.
