5th June, World Environment Day
Stay up to date with our most recent news and updates
Since 1974, the United Nations has designated June 5th as World Environment Day. This day is important for Galapagos and in general for the entire world population. In the Galapagos Islands, the population is aware of environmental practices. Therefore, we, as “Cruise to Galapagos” tour operator, are committed to protecting the fragile ecosystem on the islands through the implementation of sustainable tourism. In addition to this, the commitment to take care of the environment is now a fundamental practice for our future.
Why is it necessary to commemorate this day?
The commemoration aims to call for action and take care of the environment. To achieve this goal, protecting the world and sustainability is a task for all. Our natural resources are finite if we do not take care of them. For this reason, we must protect our lands, waters, and air. The objective of this commemoration is to progressively eliminate our individual contribution to global warming through responsible consumption and the use of resources. As a result, stop the effects on our health and that of the planet caused by all kinds of pollution. This year’s theme is “Air Pollution” and seeks to reduce pollutants released into the air.
The Galapagos’ ecosystem
The Galapagos Islands are one of the main destinations in the world. These islands are also the perfect place to discover thousands of species of wildlife, birds, and marine life. The Galapagos ecosystem is unique and has many endemic species; you can not look at them anywhere else in the world. In addition, Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution was inspired by the discoveries made on these islands. Only 3% of the Galapagos Islands are inhabited by humans; the remaining is all nature. That is why sustainable and responsible tourism is an excellent way to protect the Galapagos Islands.
