The importance of the ocean

The oceans perform a wide range of functions that allow and promote the existence of all the species;  above all that of human beings.

First, they are a source of biological food resources through which billions of people around the world can support themselves.

In addition, they represent a source of raw materials that have different industrial or commercial uses.

Third, the oceans are an important energy resource thanks to maritime movements and underwater currents that produce renewable energy.

On the other hand, the oceans serve as a regulator of the climate. They absorb the excess heat of the planet and regulate the effects of climate change. Also, they exchange gases with the atmosphere.

Bearing in mind that a large part of the world population lives in coastal areas, the oceans generate labor and economic resources in tasks related to the sea, based on fishing, industry, commerce, and tourism.
