After almost 7 months without receiving tourists, the archaeological ruins of Machu Picchu 🦙, considered one of the most important in Peru and in the world, opened their doors to a single Japanese tourist who “fulfilled his dream” of meeting this wonder of South America.
Jesse Takayama “the lucky” arrived in Peru 🇵🇪 in March for only 3 days, in order to visit these enigmatic archaeological ruins built more than 500 years ago, and declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO. However, the global health emergency due to COVID-19 and the suspension of all international flights meant that the trip of this Japanese tourist will last for almost 7 months, without losing hope of returning to his country before visiting this wonderful place.
“The last will be the first”
“The last tourist of Machu Picchu” as he was nicknamed by the local people, decided to wait and his story reached the ears of the tourist authorities of Cusco (Ministry of Culture and Municipality of Machupicchu) and under a special request that came to the DIRCETUR (Directorate Regional of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Cusco), he was allowed to enter the archaeological complex before returning to his country.
Now, that the time to travel and return home safely has arrived, Jesse will be remembered as “the first tourist of Machu Picchu” returns home, and he will do so with a reward for his waiting and perseverance to know the place that motivated his trip to Peru.
Even though it is true that having one of the most fabulous archaeological ruins in South America “just for you” is a true life experience that this 26-year-old will never forget. And you, would you dare to wait 7 months to see a place?
Currently, the reopening of the archaeological complex has been confirmed in November to promote internal tourism, it will be with a limited number of visitors and will have all the biosecurity measures.
