Every year, on 23rd May, people from all over the world commemorate World Turtle Day. This initiative emerged in 2000 and aims to raise awareness among all people about this species. The Galapagos Islands are a well-known place for being the habitat of the sea turtles and giant tortoises. For this reason, commemorating World Turtle Day is a very special opportunity to learn more about these special animals.
The Galapagos giant tortoises
The Galapagos tortoises are animals that we associate with a quiet and peaceful life. It is not a big surprise that some of the species can live more than 100 years. In the Galapagos Islands, there are sea turtles and tortoises, the best known being the giant tortoise species. In fact, the islands are giving that name, because of this “Galapagos” turtle species. Turtles can be seen on the islands of Bartolomé, Española, Floreana, Isabela, Santiago, San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz, and Santa Fé.
If you are a nature lover or want to get to know these spectacular animals better, you must come to the Galapagos. Here you can find the best way to do it, by means of a high-quality Galapagos cruise aboard Cruise to Galapagos tour operator.
