Snorkeling in the Galapagos Islands, an unforgettable experience. Without a doubt, we believe that we have all heard about the wonderful Galapagos Islands, and also their amazing marine life. Well, this is no exaggeration, it really is amazing!
For this reason, below, we want to invite you to discover why snorkeling or superficial diving will be an unforgettable experience and your gateway to the underwater kingdom of the Galapagos Islands.
Snorkeling, an activity that should be in your plans
Honestly, if you visit Galapagos and don’t snorkel, it’s like not having been there. For this reason, we recommend living this incredible adventure, which will surely be included among the main activities of your island hopping tour or cruise through the fantastic Galapagos Islands.
We assure you that it will be an unforgettable experience! And at that moment you will feel that every minute of travel and every penny of your money invested in this experience will have been worth it.
Have you never snorkeled before or don’t you swim very well?
Do not worry! Galapagos has the most incredible places to snorkel for the first time or in the same way if you don’t swim very well, relax, there are perfect places to learn and leave that fear in the past.
Generally, the Naturalist Guides who are in charge of the activity will ask you if you have ever practiced this activity and what is the level of your performance in the water.
Don’t worry about that, because he will help you live this experience in the ideal place according to your level.
What do you need to snorkel?
If you are a beginner, hearing “equipment” or in this case, reading can generate a bit of nerve. However, we tell you that the equipment necessary to snorkeling in Galapagos is very basic, and consists of the following: goggles, a snorkel (the tube that will allow you to breathe in the water), a pair of fins for your feet (they will help you have greater speed and resistance in the water), a float vest (this only for those who do not swim very well) and a wetsuit (similar to the one used by divers). The latter is optional since it is used only when the water is cold (15 ° c to 21 ° c) although it will also help you with buoyancy.
Once you have all the necessary gear it is important to feel comfortable, the main thing is that there are no water leaks through your visor, and remember to ask the Naturalist Guide in charge of the activity for help to correctly put on your equipment.
If you don’t feel comfortable with your gear! immediately request a replacement and once everything is in its correct position, let’s go for the water!
Where to snorkel and what can you see?
As we mentioned before, there are several incredible places full of incredible white sand, crystal clear turquoise waters, and especially shallow (1.5 meters), ideal to gain confidence in the water and prepare yourself for an unforgettable experience.
Generally, in these places, you will not observe abundant marine life, but you will be able to observe several colorful fish, very beautiful and striking.
Once you have become a true “Aquaman” you can continue to the next level, in slightly deeper waters (5 – 8 meters) where you will be able to observe a greater number of marine animals including several tropical fish, rays, sea lions, white tip reef sharks, and even some penguins, the latter only on some islands such as Isabela, Fernandina, Santiago, and Bartolomé.
Remember that snorkeling is superficial diving!
Do not worry about the depth, you will not submerge unless you are an expert or have an excellent level underwater and know how to do it correctly.
In conclusion, if you have the opportunity to snorkel in Galapagos, take advantage of it from the beginning to the end, not everyone has the opportunity to live this unforgettable experience, much less in the famous “Enchanted Islands”.
We invite you to join our incredible adventures and travel together with the most famous archipelago in the world aboard one of our exclusive cruises.
