Where are they located?

These geoglyphs are located in the Jumana pampas, in the Nazca desert, between the towns of Nazca and Palpa, in the department of Ica (Peru 🇵🇪).

Who drew them?

The drawing of these enigmatic symbols is attributed to the Nazca Culture, a pre-Columbian civilization of ancient Peru 🇵🇪 that inhabited the Nazca and Palpa area between the 1st and 7th centuries A.C.

Who discovered them?

According to some historical accounts, it is considered that it was the Conqueror Pedro Cieza de León who in the year 1534 was able to see “signs” that surrounded the Nazca desert.

It is important to mention that the Nazca lines are not only visible from the air, but are also appreciable from some hills located around the desert, which is why the Peruvian archaeologist 🤠 Toribio Mejía Xesspe, who discovered them while hiking in the area in 1927.

What is its meaning?

There are several hypotheses about its meaning, it is believed that they are some kind of calendar 📅, offerings to the Gods 🌞🌝, worship centers 🙏🏻, or even an astronomical center 🔭🪐. All the hypotheses are valid, then, why, and for what reason were they drawn? remains an unsolved mystery.
