The volcano La Cumbre, located on Fernandina Island, in the Galapagos archipelago, erupted this Saturday, June 16, 2018. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Environment in coordination with the Galapagos National Park.

Also, the Geophysical Institute of the National Polytechnic School (IG) reported that after a “seismic swarm and earthquake” began the eruptive period. From about 09:00 until 11:33 this Saturday there are at least 10 earthquakes with an intensity of 2.9 to 4.1 degrees on the Richter scale, in Fernandina.
