M/Y Galaxy
Unique Family Expeditions
During the first months of 2005, the boat Dome, named afterwards Narel, used to do daily tours service on the islands, as the boat suffered a malfunction in one of its engines. The owners had to decide whether to buy a new engine or repair the old one, at the same time the question arose whether this boat should continue with daily tour operations or offer a navigable cruise, since the boat had the authorized quota for cruising the archipelago for 16 guests.
This decision was a great challenge since it was a new experience for everybody in the company, back then they operated smaller vessels for daily tours activities. The challenge was posed, but the most important issue was the financial challenge, since this new project involved a big economic investment.
Once the decision was made to build the first cruise ship for the company, it was necessary to look for financing sources, an experienced professional was in charge of the design and construction of the ship, the place where the construction would take place and a series of questions to resolve. In September 2006 it began with the laying of the first iron wall in the dry dock in Guayaquil. Every day was a great challenge and commitment because the construction was very artisanal at that time, for example, lifting or folding a plank was with many people.
After 8 months of intense work, in June 2007, the long-awaited day of the destruction (act of dismounting the boat into the water from the dry area of the shipyard) arrived, and so for the first time the boat was baptized with the Galaxy, this name was chosen as the owners were looking for a gigantic expansion with this new ship. After more than 2 weeks of several testing, inspections and pertinent permits, the Galaxy finally arrived in Galapagos after a 3 days’ journey in the Pacific Ocean, as a novelty in the islands since it was one of the newest yachts that had been built in that period and perhaps the newest in the last 3 years. Upon arrival many people admired the facilities and aroused the desire to renew their yachts knowing that there is a local workforce capable of carrying out such an important engineering work here in the country.
From that year until today the Galaxy yacht has had 4 scheduled maintenance and a complete renovation in 2017. Currently the Galaxy is known as the father of the fleet since it has been the first of large undertakings followed by EcoGalaxy, Alya and the latest addition to the company's fleet the yacht Bonita.
As today the Galaxy has transported more than 10,000 passengers, all of them making their dreams come true of knowing a charmed and unique place in the world such as the Galapagos Islands, with quality service because our staff knows the importance of this trip for each of our guests!
